Planning pet travel from Vancouver to the United Kingdom requires careful coordination, strict documentation, and detailed knowledge of international pet import regulations. Whether your pet is traveling to London, Manchester, Edinburgh, or another UK destination, our specialists manage the entire process so you can focus on your move.

Understanding the UK’s Pet Import Requirements

The United Kingdom maintains strict regulations to protect its rabies-free status. Pets traveling from Vancouver or anywhere in Canada must meet several important entry requirements before departure.

However, strict documentation and veterinary procedures must still be completed before departure including:

      • Microchip and Eligibility
      • Rabies Vaccination and Blood Test
      • Import Permit Application
      • Additional Treatments and Veterinary Checks
      • International Pet Transport and Specialized Flight Booking
      • EU Animal Health Certificate
      • Quarantine in Australia

Dogs must receive an approved tapeworm treatment between 24 and 120 hours before arriving in the UK. Our team coordinates with veterinarians to ensure the timing and documentation meet UK regulations.

Note: UK Restricted Dog Breeds

The United Kingdom prohibits entry of certain dog breeds, including:

    • Pit Bull Terrier
    • Japanese Tosa
    • Dogo Argentino
    • Fila Brasileiro

How Long Does Pet Relocation to UK Take?

Compared with many other international destinations, the timeline for relocating a pet to the UK is relatively short.

The preparation process usually takes 3–4 weeks due to the mandatory rabies vaccination waiting period. Once your pet arrives in the UK, airport clearance typically takes 6–8 hours.

    Choosing the Right Travel Carrier

All airlines require your carrier must meet the IATA’s Live Animals Regulations Container Requirements.

If you don’t have an IATA-approved carrier, don’t worry, we can help. Through our Pet Travel Shop, we carry a full-line of IATA-approved carriers in various sizes as well as airline approved bedding and several other comfort accessories for your pet’s travel.

Preparing Your Pet for International Travel

Helping your pet prepare for travel can make a significant difference in their comfort during the journey.

    Helpful preparation steps include:

        • Introducing your pet to their travel crate several weeks in advance
        • Gradually increasing time spent inside the crate
        • Scheduling a full veterinary health check
        • Adjusting feeding times before travel
        • Providing exercise before departure to reduce anxiety

Most pets adapt very well to air travel when they are properly prepared and transported in approved crates.
